
Paul Reed
Director - Survey Manager - Town Planning - Subdivision Consultant
Paul has over 30 years of experience in the surveying industry, starting out at the Brisbane Southbank redevelopment after Expo 88 and working in construction on various engineering projects. Soon after he began working on several cadastral projects and larger subdivision developments, gaining experience in land development. Paul is a founding member of SSI, was endorsed as a consulting Surveyor in 2012, and has since been involved on the SSSI’s Land Surveying Commission. Paul was appointed Vice Chair of SSSI's QLD regional committee in 2018 and then appointed to Chair between 2019-2020.

Alex Symonds
Survey Manager | Registered Surveyor
Alex graduated from QUT in 2003 and started work at Terramap Surveys as a field Surveyor. His motivation to gain knowledge and experience meant that he was quickly promoted to an office-based role where he could best utilise his leadership skills. In 2007 Alex became a shareholder and director of Terramap. As survey manager, Alex thrived on processing up to 30 jobs a day for the 10 Terramap Field crews by preparing calculations, site instructions, and maintaining good communication between all parties and brings with him a wealth of experience of over 16 years, including 7 years field experience on many construction, mapping and consulting projects.
Alex also enjoys researching and applying latest technologies that help improve workflow and abilities of office and field-based survey staff, from 3D modelling and volume reporting, to aerial photogrammetric surveys and land-based laser scanning, and traditional GNSS and Robotic Total station surveys.

Manod Wickramasinghe
Registered surveyor
Manod joined our firm having worked for almost 6 years at Intrax (formerly Terramap). Prior to this he worked as a surveyor for Steve Cooper and Associates and Axis Surveys. He undertook his Bachelor of Spatial Science (Hons) Surveying Major with University of Southern Queensland. Manod is currently a Registered Surveyor who is working towards his Cadastral Endorsement with the Surveyors Board of Queensland.
He has experience in cadastral surveys having undertaken many identification surveys as well as various subdivisions including building format developments. He has undertaken large number of Lease surveys in both regional Queensland and regional New South Wales for Telco companies. Manod has over 14 years of experience in civil set outs for shopping centres, unit developments, commercial sites as well as road construction.

Mark Hayman
Surveying Associate
Mark has been with East Coast Surveys since 2012. He has worked in the surveying industry for over 35 years, and for most of this time has been a registered Surveying Associate. Mark’s expertise includes surveying of cadastral boundaries for residential, industrial and rural subdivisions, strata title surveys & 100’s of identification surveys. He has also performed many Contour and Detail surveys, As-constructed surveys, engineering set out surveys, and building set out surveys. Mark is highly experienced in the application of AutoCAD for the drafting of plans for various types of surveys.

Julian Martinez
Registered surveying graduate
Julian is a member of SSSI. He studied and worked in Columbia and brings with him experience in the use of GPS systems, management of geographic information systems and remote sensing. He also carries out topographic surveys and surveys for the set out and as constructed plans of infrastructure. Julian heads up a team of surveyors who focus on providing detail and as constructed surveys and drawings for infrastructure works projects.

Quang Nugyen
Registered Surveying Associate
Quang received a Bachelor of Surveying from Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry (Vietnam) in 2009. He has more than 8 years’ experience in a range of engineering and construction projects. He is currently managing several different projects with most of his time being occupied in his role as lead surveyor at Redland Bay State School which is due to open in 2024.

Lachlan McKinnon
Field technician
Lachlan graduated with a Diploma of Surveying in 2016 from TAFE SA and is currently in the process of obtaining his Associate Degree at USQ. During 2017 he worked on the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and spent the next 2 years in the Cooper Basin oil/gas fields as a survey assistant. Lachlan is also trained in drafting and worked as a full-time drafter in 2019. In 2020 he worked for the Moreton Bay Regional Council and was involved in various council projects. Lachlan currently carries out detail and topographic surveys for a range of projects. He is proficient in the use of AutoCAD in carrying out the drafting of various site and proposal plans.

Nick Whyborn
Surveying Technician
Nick joined us in February 2023 and is currently studying a Bachelor of Spatial Sciences with Honors part time at the University of Southern Queensland. Prior to joining the team at East Coast Surveys, Nick worked on the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Rockhampton Ring Road Resumption and Rockhampton – Gladstone Highway projects, providing roadside detail over tens of kilometers while also tackling other projects in that region. Now at East Coast Surveys Nick is responsible for many of the detail and topographical projects and is proficient in drafting plans and surveying proposals through AutoCAD.
